If January Jones is trying to distance herself from her role as Mad Men‘s Betty Draper then she’s doing a great job! First we got to see her as Frosty the Snowbitch Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class and next we get to see her as 19th-century former-prostitute-turned-gun-toting-homesteader Sarah in the new film Sweetwater, set to premiere at Sundance in January, 2013.
From the promotional photo above it appears that you can take the girl out of the brothel, but you can’t take the brothel out of the girl as January sports a frilly bright fuchsia
Victoria’s Victorian Secret dress complete with an over-the-shoulder boulder pistol holder and a shotgun! Let’s zoom in, shall we?
Can you say Jannie Oakley? That some sort of erotic Don Draper nightmare right there!
January Jones will starring in the film along with Jason Isaacs (above, 2nd from right) and Ed Harris (left). The brief IMDB synopsis reads, “In the late 1800s, a fanatical religious leader, a renegade Sheriff, and a former prostitute collide in a blood triangle on the rugged plains of the New Mexico Territory.” The more detailed description from the Sundance website provides a little more information:
Against the backdrop of the American Old West, newlyweds Luke (?) and Sarah (January Jones) struggle to make a living cultivating their small patch of land. Soon a much bigger struggle arises as powerful landowner and community preacher Cole (Jason Isaacs) makes a play for their property. As he launches his diabolical plot to take their land, an eccentric big-city sheriff (Ed Harris) comes to town. Things soon go from bad to worse, culminating in a jaw-dropping, hell-hath-no-fury showdown.
Sweetwater boldly establishes its own identity while remaining true to the tenets of the western genre. Wonderfully cinematic, this expressive tale is superbly directed by the Miller brothers, who extract strong performances from the ensemble cast. Ed Harris is especially striking in a bravura role as the sheriff. With the magnificent New Mexico countryside as their canvas, the Miller brothers imaginatively stroke their cinematic brush across an intense but humorous film.

Wait, what?!? Jason Aldean! That oughta be fun! What are the odds we will see his character picking a tune by a campfire before he gets shot?
I will leave you with January Jones’ character Sarah toning her attire down a notch and sporting her slightly more somber multiple-crosses look:
