Will Jason Trawick have legal control over Britney Spears?
The time honored tradition of a father passing over the leadership role when a young man asks for his daughter’s hand in marriage is taking a new age twist in the case of Britney Spears’ dad and her fiance Jason Trawick.
In papers filed Friday, Jamie Spears is asking a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to grant Jason co-conservatorship over Britney. This would give Jason only shared legal control over Britney’s “general well being.” He would not be calling the shots in regards to her finances.
An L.A. probate attorney who spoke with People acknowledged that it’s a unique proposition for someone’s fiance to also be a conservator. Jeffrey S. Cohen said:
“This is a very unusual situation, because generally you don’t see conservatees get married. This could be a sign that the couple’s wedding is around the corner. This is probably a compromise between Britney, her father and Trawick to get the marriage off on the right foot. Obviously, her future husband needs to have a say in her well being.”
Britney’s dad has had legal control over her daughter’s affairs since she suffered a mental breakdown in 2008. This conservatorship will be lifted when a judge at the advisement of Britney’s doctors feels that she is capable of managing her own affairs.
What do you think of Britney’s fiance also becoming her co-conservator? Remember, the role might be sort-of familiar for Jason because he was Britney’s manager before they became romantically involved.
