VIDEOS What the American Horror Story: Coven trailers reveal about the plot

American Horror Story Coven Initiation

Less than one month to go until American Horror Story: Coven premieres on FX… And the show’s producers are making us more eager than ever!

Yesterday, the official AHS YouTube channel released the sixth trailer for season No. 3.

The new trailer is the first to feature Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett. There are also appearances by AHS favorites Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson. To the delight of many fans, season No. 1’s Taissa Farmiga is back in a key role.

Initiation: The doors are open… Dare to come inside?

The promo also gave viewers a good look at one of the main settings for the upcoming season, a New Orleans school for young witches.

Here’s a look at the other trailers… Plus, some pre-season speculation about Coven!

Coffin: What secrets do we keep that you thought were asleep?

This promo led some fans to think vampires — who traditionally sleep in coffins — will play a role in this season. Some other fans commented that the witches might have powers of necromancy, which would allow them to summon and control the dead.

Stakes: This October, stakes aren’t the only things we’re raising.

Aside from the obvious connection to witches getting burned at the stake, fans commented this seems to show the witches are immortal.

Staircase: Misbehave and incur our kind of suspension.

This was another glimpse at the New Orleans’ school for witches, which supposedly teaches them how to ward off attacks from rivals.

Pins & Needles: Because “pinning” on the internet is all the rage…

You can’t have a horror show set in New Orleans without some references to Voodoo! We know that Angela Bassett is playing real-life Voodoo practitioner Marie Laveau, who was renowned for her powers.

“It’s been interesting, being in New Orleans, because there’s such a regard and respect for who she was,” Angela told Collider. “She lived to about 80 years old, and she was a very influential person in the city. My character is based loosely on her.”

Detention: This October… Lift your spirits.

This was the first trailer released for Coven and it definitely got people guessing about symbolism. Cats? Someone in the fireplace? Women hanging on the wall?

See how it all comes together when American Horror Story: Coven premieres on FX on Wednesday, October 9 at 10/9c p.m.
