VIDEO LeAnn Rimes jokes about female-on-male rape
When will celebrities learn than jokes involving rape are never advisable? LeAnn Rimes became the latest star to put her foot in her mouth when she said she lost her virginity at 16 by “raping” her boyfriend.
LeAnn made the questionable remark during the new episode of In Bed With Joan when host Joan Rivers asked how and when the country singer lost her virginity.
“I was in Monte Carlo and I was 15,” LeAnn said as husband Eddie Cibrian sat next to her. “I know, it’s kind of a bulls**t story. I was 16. There you go.”
Joan further pried, “Was it nice? Was it bad? Was he nice?”
That’s when the story took a turn for the worse.
“Well, he was my boyfriend for like three and a half years,” LeAnn explained. “He was fine. I think I raped him. I think that’s how it happened.”
Celebrities occasionally make intentionally sensational comments to drum up press for their projects. In LeAnn’s case, her VH1 show isn’t getting great ratings… But, if that was her thought process, I doubt it’s going to work as intended.
My take is that LeAnn didn’t think it would be a big deal because she’s a woman and whatnot. However, according to a 2012 study from the Centers for Disease Control, one in 21 men said they had been forced to penetrate a partner, had been forcible penetrated or were made to receive oral sex.
