Angelina Jolie has discussed her shocking split from Brad Pitt for the first time in an interview with BBC World News.

Jolie talked with reporter Yalda Hakim in Cambodia about where she’s at now with the separation and how her kids are doing. She said:

“I don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time and… and we are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it. Many, many people find themselves in this situation. My whole, my family… we’ve all being through a difficult time. My focus is my children, our children… and my focus is finding this way through. We are and forever will be a family. I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer.”

The 41-year-old actress added, “It’s been a difficult few months. Right now, I’m going through a moment when just everybody’s in my room. Two dogs, two hamsters and two children at the moment. It’s wonderful. But, usually, I just wake up trying to figure out who’s going to get the dog out, who’s going to start the pancakes and did anybody brush their teeth.”

During the interview the mom-of-six taught Hakim about the local custom of eating crickets and spiders. In the video posted to Twitter, Jolie’s seen cooking up the bugs and feeding them to her kids while taking a little bite of a spider herself.

And check out her daughter Vivienne (8) as she fearlessly picks up one of the arachnids!

Jolie is in Cambodia with kids in tow for the premiere of her film First They Killed My Father, about the genocide under Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge. Her eldest son, Maddox (15), was adopted from Cambodia in 2002.
