I imagine it’s difficult for a stunning, statuesque, Golden Globe-winning actress to go unrecognized, but Uma Thurman nearly pulled it off at Monday’s premiere of The Slap.
Standing alongside her co-stars, 44-year-old Uma was sporting a notably minimalistic makeup look, aside from her bright lips. She also had her bangs pushed back and her hair straightened. Still, some are speculating that the dramatic change to her appearance isn’t purely because of some creative styling.

“It looks as though she’s had a recent lower blepharoplasty treatment, also known as eye bag removal. She isn’t wearing any eyeliner or mascara, probably in order to avoid infection from the new surgery,” Mark Norfolk, a plastic surgery clinical director, told The Daily Mail. “Her face shape seems to have changed significantly – her face looks less defined. I would say that she’s probably had a recent course of strong chemical peels as well as some dermal filler injected into the cheeks and nasal labial area, which is all contributing to this swollen-looking finish as it can have this effect immediately after undergoing these treatments.”
He also speculated Uma went overboard on Botox and suggested she “lay off the treatments for a while” and “remember that less is more.”
UPDATE: Uma Thurman and her makeup artist have confirmed that it was just an experimental makeup look that made her look so different.
Renee Zellweger sparked similar plastic surgery rumors in recent years when she debuted a new look. General stories about her led to some backlash and Renee eventually attributed her appearance to “living a different, happy, more fulfilling life.”
