The Voice Week 5 recap: Love is a battlefield
The Voice has been holding steady in the ratings and NBC has re-upped for another season. All this bodes well for the show that the struggling network hoped would compete with Fox’s mega-hit American Idol. Last week the judges continued to set teammate against teammate in the battle rounds in order to pare down their respective squad for the final 16. Each of the last two weeks one member from each team was sent packing and it was more of the same tonight.
Let’s see who battled who, who got sent home, what songs were performed and as always I will provide you the chance to let your voice be heard with our ongoing poll of which team our readers believe is the front runner to win.
Here is Adam’s roster heading into tonight’s competition:
Jeff Jenkins
Rebecca Loebe
Javier Colon – Defeated Angela Wolff in battle round 2
Devon Barley
Casey Weston – Defeated Tim Mahoney in battle round 1
Casey Desmond
With two spots left to fill for the round of 16 Adam decided to let Rebecca Loebe and Devon Barley get after it. Adam made a killer song choice for the two and it was an interesting and stand out performance. I’m with Blake when he said, “Don’t ever split these two up.” They sounded great together.
They performed: “Creep” by Radiohead
Who went home: Rebecca Loebe
Here is Blake’s roster heading into this evening’s battle round:
Patrick Thomas – Defeated Tyler Robinson in battle round 1
Xenia Martinez
Dia Frampton
Sara Oromchi
Jared Blake – Defeated Elenowen in battle round 2
Serabee
After last weeks surprising victory by aging daddy Jared Blake Shelton let Dia Frampton and Serabee try their chances against each other. Blake felt that either one could win and he went with a classic song that at first appeared to be out of the performer’s respective wheelhouses. Dia was worried about stage fright but Reba told her that if you didn’t get nervous you shouldn’t sing anymore. Serabee was told by Blake that her challenge would be to tone it down a bit.
They performed: “You Can’t Hurry Love” by The Supremes
Who went home: Serabee
Here was Cee Lo’s army of sangers heading into the third week of battles:
Kelsey Rey
Vicci Martinez – Defeated Nikki Dawson in battle round week 1
Emily Valentine
Nakia – Defeated Tje Austin in battle round week 2
Curtis Grimes
Tori and Taylor Thompson
Last week was a battle for the crown of Austin, TX with Nakia coming out the victor. This week Cee Lo unleashed Tori and Taylor Thompson and Kelsey Rey against each other. The Thompsons were intimidated by Rey’s range and skills and Kelsey seemed pretty confidant heading into the battle. Green got a little tear in his eye for this tough choice.
They performed: “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield
Who went home: Kelsey Rey
XTina’s troops as of battle round week 3:
Frenchie Davis – Defeated Tarralyn Ramsey in battle round 1
Beverly McClellan – Defeated Justin Grennan in battle round week 2
Cherie Oakley
Raquel Castro
Julia Eason
Lily Elise
After Justin went home last week Christina is left with nothing but the ladies and you get the feeling she kind of likes it that way. For the third battle week XTina pitted Julia Eason and Raquel Castro who is the youngest performer in the contest on opposite sides of the ring. Cee Lo thought young Castro had the juice.
They performed: “Only Girl in the World” by Rihanna
Who went home: Julia Eason
We’re one battle round away from each team completing their final four to go after the other teams for the whole shoot and match. As I’ve done each week I’m providing you the chance to vote on which team you now believe has the best chance to win. Rock your Voice vote peeps!
