The Suite Life’s Dylan Sprouse defends his new restaurant job

Dylan Sprouse isn't broke, has money

In 2010, The Suite Life of Zach and Cody‘s Dylan and Cole Sprouse were reportedly the richest teenage twins in the world. So, it came as a surprise when, three years later, some New York City restaurant-goers realized Dylan was the one helping them to their tables.

Apparently some people have been less than supportive of the 21-year-old NYU student’s new job and interpreted it as a sign he’s blown through his Disney money. According to Dylan, that’s not the case…

“So many pictures have gotten out that I’m now working as a host at a restaurant in NY. To clear up the air (which is admittedly pretty rude), I did not take this job because I ‘lost all my money,'” Dylan said on Tumblr. “I am financially secure, and took this job as a way to primarily feed my over bountiful video game addiction.”

Dylan and Cole were veritable child actors, with roles in Friends, Grace Under Fire and Big Daddy before landing on the Disney Channel in 2005. However, they agreed to walk away from it all and attend college a few years back. Since then, Dylan said he’s realized that working in the restaurant has non-monetary benefits.

“I also too (sic) this as a way to try a new experience, working somewhat below the means I’m used to, as well as a way to socialize and get out of the house. I feel most comfortable when I’m working and doing something, to criticize someone of that is pretty odd,” he said. “I will potentially return to acting someday, but in no way do I think any experience is a step down for me, but rather a new step in another direction.”

I’ve got to admit it’s pretty refreshing to see a former child star who doesn’t come across as entitled or afraid of hard work… And I’m sure Jon Gosselin is equally pleased by Dylan’s defense of restaurant work!
