‘Sriracha: The Documentary’ is officially happening, thanks to successful Kickstarter campaign

The spicy condiment Sriracha has something of a cult following. There are fan clubs. People battle it out for the rights to a “SRIRACHA” vanity license plate. It’s a muse to artists, musicians and foodies around the world… So, why shouldn’t that passion spill over to the big screen?

“But even with its cult following—recipes, t-shirts, tattoos—most fans don’t know the origin story of this Thai flavor, or recognize David Tran, the man responsible for popularizing Sriracha in the U.S.,” said Griffin Hammond, the professional YouTube producer behind the film. “This short documentary (approximately 30 minutes) finally reveals the story of Sriracha—where it comes from, how it’s made, and the people who love it.”

After turning to Kickstarter with his $5,000 goal, Sriracha: The Documentary quickly exceeded fundraising goals. With 28 days remaining in the campaign, Griffin has already raised more than $12,000, which helped him meet the “stretch goal.”

That means one very important thing: The Sriracha documentary is coming to a screen near you in September.

“Day 1: Met our goal! Day 2: Doubled it!! Wow, everyone loves Sriracha! Thank you so much! Your awesomeness is sending the film to explore Si Racha, Thailand! Your support keeps making this film better!”

If you are a Sriracha fanatic and want some original artwork to match your Sriracha bed sheets and wallpaper, there is still time to donate to the film. For $20, you’ll receive a signed movie poster and painting (shown above). For $15 more, you’ll received a signed Sriracha cookbook from Randy Clemens.

Or, if your budget has already been spent on new bottles of Sriracha, you could dig for some coins in between your couch cushions and donate $5. That will earn you an advanced screening of the film and your name in the credits. Basically, you could live on forever in Sriracha stardom!
