Who were Robin Williams’ ex-wives, Valerie Velardi and Marsha Garces?

Robin Williams’ wife Susan Sneider released two heartfelt statements about the passing of her husband of three years, the last revealed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Robin had been married twice before, and had three children during those marriages.

Robin’s first wife was Valerie Valardi, who he was married to from 1978 to 1988, and had one son Zach Williams (31.) Valardi encouraged Robin during the early days of his career, and stuck by him during the height of his abuse of alcohol and cocaine. He was reportedly unfaithful to her multiple times, but the marriage dissolved after he began an affair with his nanny, Marsha Garces. So far Valardi has not released a statement about Robin’s death.

Robin and Marsha married in 1989, and were together until 2008. They had two children, Zelda (25,) and Cody (21,) and Marsha became a producer on most of his successful films, including Mrs. Doubtfire, and Patch Adams. He initially sobered up in the early days of their marriage, but had a three-year relapse that eventually led the marriage’s dissolve in 2008. They parted on good terms, but Robin has spoken out several times about how costly the divorce and alimony was for him.

Marsha issued this statement about his death:

“My heart is split wide open and scattered over the planet with all of you. Please remember the gentle, loving, generous – and yes, brilliant and funny – man that was Robin Williams. My arms are wrapped around our children as we attempt to grapple with celebrating the man we love, while dealing with this immeasurable loss.”
