Reese Witherspoon apologizes for actions following arrest

Celebrity Card Reese Witherspoon

Actress Reese Witherspoon has issued her first public statement following her and husband Jim Toth’s arrest in Atlanta on Friday. Toth was charged with DUI and Witherspoon was charged with disorderly conduct after refusing to stay in the car during the ordeal.

According to the police report, Reese played the ol’ “celebrity card” when she got irritated during her husband’s arrest. The Water for Elephants actress is quoted as having said, “You’re about to find out who I am … You are going to be on national news,” after having asked if the arresting officer knew who she was.

Witherspoon has issued her first official statement on the matter that seems to indicate that she was in the wrong and that what we’ve read about the arrest is probably accurate or something close to it.

“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that was no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behavior.”

Reese and Jim made the NYC premiere for Witherspoon’s new film Mud on Sunday. When introduced to the crowd the 37-year-old mother of 3 received the loudest applause.

Both were scheduled for an appearance this morning in Atlanta Municipal Court. Witherspoon has been in Georgia’s capitol shooting her film The Good Lie.
