The identity of the victim of one of the most vicious and inexplicable acts in recent memory has been revealed. Homeless 65-year old Ronald Poppo is the man who had his face gnawed off by Rudy Eugene, nicknamed “The Miami Zombie,” alongside a busy highway ramp in Miami.
Sgt. Armando Aguilar, president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, stated:
“He had his face eaten down to his goatee. The forehead was just bone. No nose, no mouth. In my opinion, he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Gruesome images have circulated that are allegedly Poppo’s mutilated face after the attack. Gawker has posted these pics which you can view here but they are beyond disturbing. I can earnestly say I regret having seen them even in research of this post.
Poppo is still in an area hospital in critical condition. The Miami Herald is reporting that Poppo has been homeless now for over three decades and has been arrested at least 24 times since 1978, mostly for drinking in public and trespassing, but also on a few felony arrests for assault, burglary and resisting arrest.
