Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, who are NOT married, gave Sparrow James Midnight Madden his debut in People magazine this week. They also took the opportunity to explain Sparrow’s odd name.
Nicole likes it because it goes well with Harlow, their almost two-year-old daughter, but Joel Madden has other reasons for liking Sparrow’s name. Here’s what Joel told People (via The Hollywood Gossip):
“There’s also the Captain Jack Sparrow connection. It reminded me of the Johnny Cash song ‘A Boy Named Sue.’ My worry raising a son in Hollywood is what will he have to struggle for? I wanted to give him a name that he’s going to have to stand up for. I love it; I think it’s a beautiful name.”
Joel was onto something about Captain Jack Sparrow, but he should have gone with “Jack” instead.
