MUG SHOT Kentucky police arrest Queen Elsa from Frozen, charge her with “excessive winter”

Billboard Women in Music Luncheon 2014

It’s cold out there, you guys. It’s so cold, Jim Cantore is jumping for joy over thundersnow in Boston. It’s so cold, Boston is practically one giant snowball. And it’s so cold that police in Harlan KY are looking for fictional characters to blame the unending February on–all in the name of fun, of course.

This all started when the HPD decided to have a little fun with their frustrations about the latest round of winter weather, and put out an APB for Elsa, the Queen of winter:

All points bulletin!!! HPD has issued an arrest warrant for Queen Elsa of Arendelle. Suspect is a blonde female last seen wearing a long blue dress and is known to burst into song “Let it Go!” As you can see by the weather she is very dangerous. Do not attempt to apprehend her alone.

That one post got over 900 comments, 8,000 likes, and 15,000 shares on Facebook, and went viral faster than a handful of snow down your shirt. The BBC reported on the silliness, as did the CBC, the Germans, and a whole host of other news agencies.

Then, with another round of snow forecast to hit the greater Harlan area from Friday night into Saturday morning, one enterprising young officer went into action. Officer Brent Clark, of the nearby New Tazewell PD, heard that Elsa was in the area, and decided to apprehend the suspect. Unfortunately for Harlan, Elsa was “in the guise” of six-year-old Lily McMurray, daughter of Nick and Holly McMurray of Tazewell.

Lily has since been released into her parents’ custody. The Harlan forecast calls for light snow through Saturday afternoon.
