Jenna Bush Hager welcomes baby girl, names her in honor of George H.W. Bush
It’s a second daughter for former First Daughter Jenna Bush Hager and her husband, Henry Hager. The pair welcomed a 7 lb., 9 oz. baby girl on Thursday morning and named her Poppy Louise Hager in tribute to multiple grandparents, including Jenna’s paternal grandfather, former president George H.W. Bush.
“We are thrilled to announce the birth of our darling daughter,” the second-time parents said in a statement. “Poppy is named after Jenna’s grandfather, George Herbert Walker ‘Poppy’ Bush, a.k.a. Gampy. His nickname growing up was Poppy, and we are proud to name her after a man we so adore. Louise is in honor of our grandmothers’ middle names, Louise and Lewis. Mom and Poppy are healthy and well.”
Jenna, a Today Show correspondent, told Savannah Guthrie via a televised FaceTime session little Poppy has “big shoes to fill” because George H.W. “was known as smart and loyal” while growing up. The new baby joins older sister Mila. Congrats to the family!
