Demi Lovato has been sober for six years now, but two years ago she almost fell off the wagon due to cliquish behavior at the MET gala. However, instead of picking up a glass of the readily flowing wine available at the event, Lovato made a healthier decision.
The Met Gala is an annual star-studded fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. In an interview published today, Lovato told Billboard that the social atmosphere at the 2016 Gala was overwhelming, and singled out the behavior of a particular female star.
“This one celebrity was a complete bitch and was miserable to be around,” Demi revealed. “It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink.”
Instead of picking up a glass to sooth her tension, she texted her manager, who found an A.A. meeting for her that very night. By 10 PM, Demi had slipped out of her glitzy custom Moschino gown by Jeremy Scott and was relieved to be around people who shared her struggles.
“I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on — millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting,” she said. “And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala — fake and sucking the fashion industry’s d!ck.”
