American Horror Story Season 4 is set at a carnival, writer confirms

American Horror Story Carnival

Although it seems like Fiona Goode just cursed knotty pine as American Horror Story: Coven came to a close, the writers are already working hard to concoct next season’s script.

During a newly released podcast from a Feb. 16 Nerdist panel, writer Douglas Petrie was more or less tricked into revealing American Horror Story season 4’s setting: After co-panelist Moira Kirkland said she thought a carnival theme was already announced, Douglas confirmed.

“That’s the idea. Very roughly, that’s the idea,” the veteran AHS writer said. “We don’t have a title yet.”

Without a confirmed title, that actually means American Horror Story: Circus is still a contender — just as fans guessed in early January. Or it could be the more obvious American Horror Story: Carnival. Either way, the real creative juices get going when the writers cook up characters and story lines.

“Nothing is too extreme on American Horror Story,” said Douglas. “We just started season 4. We will find it and it’s going to be awesome.”

The fourth season of American Horror Story will debut on FX in October 2014.
