Amber Portwood’s brother discusses her early release and progress

Amber Portwood

Amber Portwood’s brother Shawn is backing an earlier report via The Ashley that the former Teen Mom cast member is scheduled to be released from prison on Nov. 6.

Shawn Portwood tells OK! that Amber has completed her drug rehabilitation program and that she’s also received her G.E.D. during her incarceration. Shawn stated:

“She’s really grown and matured — she completed her drug rehab [in prison], she got her G.E.D., she completed parenting classes and she became the administrator of the CLIFF program, which helps inmates get sober. She did so well in cleaning herself up, that she spent most of her jail time helping other girls get clean.”

Shawn also discussed the often heated relationship between Amber and Leah’s father, Gary Shirley:

“Most of Amber’s problems revolved around Gary, so it’s a hot issue. He can keep Leah away from Amber, and in the past when that’s happened, it triggers Amber in a bad way. Her demeanor has changed, so that will help.

He added, “He [Shirley] has a new girlfriend now — she’s very nice and cares for Leah well.”

According to Shawn, Amber’s goals upon release include staying clean and staying out of the limelight. “She wants none of that life anymore. She’s grown up far more than I thought she would. When I talk to her, she’s changed.”
