90 DAY FIANCE Evelyn Cormier makes American Idol Top 14, duets with Chris Isaak REPORT

90 Day Fiance star Evelyn Cormier will be making her return to the small screen as a contestant on American Idol Season 19 premiering March 3. We reported last month that the Claremont singer/songwriter must have made quite the impression on the judges as she was named one of the Top 20 finalists after her live performance in Hawaii. We have even more exciting news to report for fans of Evelyn as she has reportedly survived the next cut as well after performing “Wicked Game” with Chris Isaak!

The American Idol spoiler scoop comes from The Idol Pad, who apparently had someone in attendance at this week’s performances in Los Angeles. According to the site, the field was narrowed from 20 finalists to 14, and Evelyn was one of the seven women to make the cut.

As mentioned above, Evelyn reportedly performed in the “duets” stage of the competition with Chris Isaak. The two of them performed Chris’s sultry hit “Wicked Game,” which Evelyn teased on Instagram by sharing a photo of herself and captioning it with the first line from the song:

Here are all of the reported duet pairings from Evelyn’s group:

1. Alyssa Raghunandan & Julia Michaels – “Issues” by Julia Michaels

2. Eddie Island & Lukas Graham – “7 Years” by Lukas Graham

3. Wade Cota & Lovely The Band (with multiple instruments) – “Broken” by Lovely The Band

4. Ryan Hammond & Cynthia Erivo – TBD

5. Evelyn Cormier & Chris Isaak (with guitar) – “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak

6. Logan Johnson & Julia Michaels – “What A Time” by Julia Michaels & Niall Horan

7. Raquel Trinidad & Lovely The Band (with multiple instruments) – “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John

8. Alejandro Aranda (with guitar) & Ben Harper (with guitar) – “There Will Be A Light” by Ben Harper

9. Dimitrius Graham & Lukas Graham – “Love Someone” by Lukas Graham

10. Jeremiah Harmon & Cynthia Erivo – “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper

Each of the contestants who made it to the next round had one of the judges’ names beside theirs, and Evelyn was matched with Katy Perry. When I first posted about Evelyn making it to the Top 20, I was guessing that she really struck a chord (perhaps literally) with Katy because her story is so similar to Katy’s when she was a teen. Both are from extremely conservative Christian families, and both are/were singer/songwriters with a very Christian message. Katy (Katy Hudson at the time) released her first gospel record when she was 16, and only later began to embrace secular pop music after relocating to Los Angeles. I’m sure we will hear a lot from Katy when Evelyn first performs about how much Evelyn reminds her of herself as a teenager.

Regardless of whatever affinity Katy has for Evelyn, I cannot imagine it would be enough to advance Evelyn too far on its own. Actually, I would think that going from the Top 20 to the Top 14 couldn’t happen just because one of the judges had a soft spot for someone. In other words, Evelyn must be kicking a bit of ass!

In general, 90 Day Fiance fans don’t seem too keen on Evelyn’s singing abilities, but perhaps all of that might change when they see her perform “Wicked Game” alongside Chris Isaak — especially if she has been coached by producers and/or professional singers. I admit that I am super curious to hear — and to watch. (Of course, I would tune in just to see Evelyn’s husband David’s face in the audience as she and Chris swap lyrics and stare into each other’s eyes.)

Eveyln’s intro on the show is being included in one of the commercials for the new American Idol season, which have a “You Don’t Know Me. Yet.” theme. In Evelyn’s promo, she talks about the stress of picking out a dress to wear for her audition, which was only two weeks out at the time. Unfortunately, the “You don’t know me” doesn’t really work with Evelyn given the fact that she was a star on one of the top reality shows on TV.

Here is a poor quality recording of the commercial as posted by Evelyn herself. We will update if we are able to find a better version:

“Yes!! It’s true!!” Evelyn captioned the clip. “I auditioned for @katyperry @lukebryan @lionelrichie for @americanidol!! My journey begins March 3rd on @abcnetwork ❤️??? Tune in to see what happens!!”

And just in case there are any readers out there who may not be familiar with “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak, here is the stunning music video with Chris and topless super model Helena Christensen:

American Idol premieres Sunday, March at 8/7c on ABC.
