Mindy McCready found dead from an apparent suicide at 37

Multiple sources are reporting that troubled country singer and mother of two, Mindy McCready, has been found dead.

Stacy McCloud with FOX17 out of Nashville tweeted the following:

This was also reported by Andrea Canning with NBC Dateline via her Twitter account:

E! News is also confirming the story. Both E! and TMZ have sources saying that that Mindy also shot and killed her dog.

This tragic news comes after her boyfriend, David Wilson, was found dead just over a month ago. His passing was first reported as a self-inflicted gunshot wound but since that time the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office has been conducting an ongoing investigation as to the cause.

Following Wilson’s death, McCready’s two sons – Zander (6) and Zayne (9-months-old) – were removed from her home because the singer had, “indulged in too much alcohol because she was still mourning David’s passing,” according to a source with E!.  The “Guys Do It All the Time” singer was later ordered to enter a treatment facility by a judge. Just one day after, however, McCready was released to undergo outpatient treatment instead.

Her body was found in Heber Springs, Arkansas.

UPDATE: Here’s the official statement from the aforementioned Cleburne Sheriff’s Office:

“At 3:31 PM, Sunday, February 17th Deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of gun shots fired in the area of 1132 Fox Chase Drive in Heber Springs. Officers arrived on the scene at 3:58 PM and discovered the body of 37-year-old Melinda Gayle McCready on the front porch of the residence at 1132 Fox Chase. Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. McCready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated.”

RIP Mindy….What a sad life she lived, so sad for her children

  • Courtney

I’m sorry for her family especially her boys, but ….. That’s SOO selfish! AND to shoot your dog too! That was disturbing!

    • kim

it never says she shot the dog

    • kim

      nvm see it

    • awoman

The dog thing is crazy, but I don’t think it is selfish to be mentally disturbed to this point. She was sick.

    • ashley

I totally agree! How selfish of her. However, maybe now her kids can have a loving home without the mental problems of their parents…as harsh as that may sound, they may be better off now.

  • Sweet Venom

I know I’ll get a lot of flack for saying this, but perhaps it’s good she is dead. The world could use less animal killers. If you want to off yourself then go ahead, but wtf did the dog do?

    • SamR

Wow. I don’t think she usually killed animals. As is tragically sometimes the case, suicidal people occasionally kill others that depend on them to spare them of the pain of the loss. Her children had already been taken away, so the dog was the only one left. Obviously this is all tragic and killing her dog was just another bad decision on top of one huge one, but wow, I cannot believe you said it’s good she’s dead. That’s really messed up.

      • Sweet Venom

Yes, what I said was really messed up as opposed to someone killing their dog. I stand by what I said.

        • happymeaz

Again they are not in their right mind. Maybe she didn’t want to leave the dog behind and in her faulty thinking process she shot the dog. I don’t think for once second that she was vicious person. She was hurting probably more than you will know. The venom part of your sn is correct but not the sweet. You have no idea about mental illness or suicide. Try growing some compassion for humans more than animals.

          • Sweet Venom

You are a prime example as to why I am a misanthropist. First, do not try and act as though you know what I have gone through or what I feel. Secondly, I do value a dog’s life more than a human’s life, but I do not need to reevaluate who I am or what I stand for. These are MY opinions, not yours. Try not being so judgmental and please realize that just because I do not agree with you or other people does not make me any less in control of who I am. My priorities are perfectly fine honey, I’m sorry if that bothers you, but seriously I could care less.

            • Tracy

Sweet Venom Compassion comes in many forms. Both animals and people deserve compassion. The dog could not decide for its self she did. That is the draw back to the mhuman mind. We maybe the more intelligent being but sometimes I wonder if that is really true. This woman needed some serious help she didn’t get. I am grateful though that DCF made the decisions to remove the children because since she did take the life of the dog she probably would of taken the life of her kids. I am not supporting anything she did but She does deserve some compassion just as a dog gone insane would get from you. Mindy slipped into a insanity that no one could help her and she took her own life and that of her pet.

              • Sweet Venom

Thank you for that. I am saying thank you because you stated your opinion in a polite respectful way and you’re not shoving your beliefs down my throat. Happymeaz should learn from you.

    • happymeaz

Wow. I guess you have never lost anyone to suicide. Be grateful. The last 2 funeral I went to were for suicide! She wasn’t in her right mind. If you value a dog over a human life then YOU need to reevaluate who you are and what your priorities are!

    • Hannah

I completely agree with you; all these other people saying you need to reevaluate, or that she was justified because she had mental illness are the ones who seriously need a reality check.

  • Jess

Who the f shoots their dog? If your going to off yourself then do it to yourself why must you kill others first?! Awful woman! I hope those beautiful innocent children have someone loving to now raise them.

  • I’m assuming that was probably her wanting to take the dog “with her”….which makes me wonder what she would have done if her kids were present. Soooo sad.

    • starl8t

that’s what i was thinking, seems cps made a great call for once taking them. Also makes me wonder if she had something to do with the boyfriends death too

    • Burkey

I agree. While its obviously disturbing that she would take her own life I find it even more disturbing that she would kill her dog first. And she probably would have done so to her children if they were there, as well. So upsetting.

  • HoardersFan

So many people have zero understanding of mental illness or suicide. It merely perpetuates the problem.

  • needypd

How selfish to leave your kids. I have watched her and supported her but wow. Those poor kids now grow up without a dad OR mom. I pray for the family

  • hummm

Sad but not surprising. She has been in a downward spiral for quite some time now. My heart breaks for her boys. Makes me wonder if it was grief from losing her boyfriend or guilt from having taken his life.

    • Cheermom

Where was it ever confirmed that she took his life? Suicide is a very hard thing to recover from, especially for someone as fragile as Mindy was.
