When will Amber Portwood be released from prison?

'Teen Mom' star Amber Portwood in prison

Amber Portwood of Teen Mom entered into an Indiana prison in June of this year after refusing to complete a drug rehabilitation program. Amber had been on probation stemming from a drug possession arrest and prior violation last year; and while most would have opted to stay in treatment, Amber chose to go to jail after fearing her drug use had spiraled completely out of control.

Now fans have begun wondering when Amber will be released from jail and able to go back to her life as mommy to her young daughter Leah. While one report claimed she would be a free woman as of June 2017, this is incorrect. Amber has stayed out of trouble so far and that means her release date has already been moved forward. For each “good day” an inmate serves, they are rewarded a day of freedom, and Amber is even eligible to apply for certain programs which will make her release even sooner.

Amber is missing out on so much right now. Just days ago, her daughter turned four years old and Amber missed it. Unfortunately, she’ll be missing a few more, and all the growing and learning her daughter is doing in the mean time. However, luckily for Amber, she may only miss two more birthdays.

If Amber Portwood remains on her best behavior and signs up for any eligible learning programs, she will be released as early as December 2014 (Update: possibly sooner! Her brother Shawn tweeted that Amber’s planning to get out before the end of 2013.) So far, she’s done well and has even joined the choir and began writing a book about her life. As long as she stays focused, she will be eligible for the earliest possible release date which is key for any mother.

“Only miss two more birthdays” that is so sad, and heartbreaking for baby girl Leah and has to be heartbreaking as a mom to know you will miss that. Amber is definately dealing with the consequences of her actions right now. Praying for the best for them

I am so proud of Amber. I hated her during her time on television. She was so angry but I think alot of that stemmed from Gary being emotionally controlling. He always knew exactly what buttons to push and how to piss her off and he used that every opportunity he got. Putting herself in prison to get better was the best thing she has ever done. Had she not, she would have still been emotionally checked out as a mother and missed alot more then 2 birthdays. I hope for the best for her and her little girl.

Whether Gary pushed her buttons or not, the only person responsible for her actions is her. He may not have treated her fairly, but the way she chooses to respond didn’t have to be abusive and neurotic. She had the choice to walk away from the negative relationship and put her daughter first, or to find another way of dealing with Gary. Even if he eggs her on, her reaction makes her equal with him in the maturity and respect department. We can’t blame our actions or reactions based on what someone else did or said. We need to conduct ourselves as adults and learn to roll with the punches, or remove ourselves from the situation. Gary is an ass, but she isn’t any better for feeding the angry troll with her extreme reactions.

hopefully when she is released, the ladies of the original teen mom will be long forgotten and she can have live a normal life free from cameras and hatred.

I really hated this girl during all of her shows but after watching her prison special I have to say I did gain some respect for her. I do think that maybe in the long run going to prison was a better choice seeing as how much better she is already doing. When she was speaking to Dr. Drew she was so much more alert and alive looking, like she actually had something going on behind her eyes in that brain. I wish the best for her and Leah.

I wish nothing but more and more progress for Amber. She was in such a rough spot before this and I truly hope that this is helping her. When she does get out she needs to stay away from Gary as much as possible. People talk about the situation as if Gary was innocent in it all, he was pushing her buttons emotionally on purpose to get her fired up. If a man had said some of the things he did to her to me then I would be upset too (he would tell her he was going to take her daughter away from her). He needs just as much help as she does because he has issues that were clear as day.

I don’t believe the punishment fits the crime.

She chose prison as her punishment though – it isn’t unfair – it was HER decision.

Just because it was an option, does not mean it was a fair one.

Amen!! America needs to make more progress towards properly helping addicts and individuals who struggle with drugs and addiction. They should not be PUNISHED for mental illness!! They should not be excused of it either. Prison is not the best thing for addicts.

Although Amber was not my favorite on the show, I do hope that she continues to make progress and be a better mom to Leah when she is released!!

Honestly,I never cared for Amber…..now,I have nothing but respect for her.She could have stayed out, kept partying etc.
Hang in there Amber. Your daughter needs & loves you.
      Stay strong!

she may be sober from pain meds but when she gets out she will still have mental problems, and will want to always rely on mood stabilizers and xanex or something. When she’s released and doesn’t get to see Leah with the frequency she wishes, she will explode like she has in the past.

It’s called cognitive behavior therapy. Hugs not drugs!

Amber wasn’t my cup of tea on the show but I wish her the best.

What did Gary do? While she was on pills, he on the other hand seemed to be a responsible parent, maybe we were watching two different shows but he seems like a good guy in comparison to the train wreck she was at the time.

Never. She’ll f*ck up somewhere along the line, again.
