VIDEO PHOTOS Meet the preacher’s wives from TLC’s ‘The Sisterhood’
Atlanta is turning into a hotspot for reality TV and the latest show to feature big city peaches is TLC’s The Sisterhood. The show aims to provide a candid look into the larger-than-life preacher wives (aka First Ladies) who work to ensure that their families and churches run as smooth as Southern-churned butter.
While one of the 5 wives featured in the cast readily admits, in the following clip from TLC’s official site, that they are held to higher standards many of their day-to-day activities can be surprising and revealing. To bring this point home we have a preacher giving his wife some handcuffs for the bedroom and another pointing out the home where she first smoked crack. Check it out.
After doing a little “holy grail” searching I managed to exhume the identities of the first ladies on the show.
DeLana Rutherford
DeLana is a pastor and is the wife of Myles Rutherford. They are the co-leaders of the Worship With Wonders Church in Kennesaw, Georgia. Here is their bio information from the church’s official website:
Myles and DeLana Rutherford are now senior pastors of a dynamic and thriving church in the Kennesaw/Atlanta area called Worship With Wonders Church. Since the launch of 3WC to Atlanta on September 3rd, 2006, with only their 2 children Brooklyn and Lyncoln, they have seen God’s hand move in a miraculous way. Due to their “SPIRIT LED” style of ministry, coupled with a strong mantle of a proceeding and prophetic word, the church has exploded with dynamic growth. Within 9 months the church moved into a 27,000 square foot facility on Barrett Parkway directly across the mall.
Not only are Myles and DeLana Pastors, but also accomplished singer/songwriters who have shared the stage with great men and women of God from all over. Their soulful style lends them to reach a collaboration of multicultural people in ministry. However, they are simply “true to” and satisfied with being “Worshippers” of God! They are addicted to his presence and leading others into His Presence on a weekly basis.
Christina Murray
Here’s Christina’s brief bio via TLC:
It’s rare that you’ll hear a first lady say, “I’m Dominican and I don’t play!” But Christina often makes it known that she’s a sassy Latina who you don’t want to mess with.
Christina and her husband Anthony run one of the largest and most successful churches in Atlanta called the Oasis Family Life Church. But the success of their church also means they struggle to meet the needs of their ever-growing congregation. And, if that weren’t stressful enough, Christina and Anthony also have to wrangle their two challenging teenage daughters who are just as sassy as their mother.
One of Oasis’ many ministries is Christina’s Closet spearheaded by the “First Lady.” The goal of the mission is to, “empower and assist those who wish to enter/reenter the workplace or change careers with valuable employment information and professional business attire.”
Tara Lewis
Tara’s bio:
When most people think of preacher’s wives, they think of demure ladies in big hats, conservative suits, and strands of pearls. So when people find out Tara is a First Lady, they usually do a double take. She’s fit and fabulous and her wardrobe leaves little to the imagination. Tara and her husband Brian recently relocated their family from Los Angeles to Atlanta so Brian could pastor a new church. However, Brian, who was actually raised Jewish, lost his position at the church after only six weeks. Now the two are struggling to find their footing in a city where new churches… and new friends…are hard to come by.
Via her Twitter feed, Tara is a self-described,” Certified Fitness Instructor, TV Personality, Fashionista, and one of the most inspiring Power Moms in the Fitness-Fashion industry today!” You can find out more about Tara via her Momfit website.
Ivy Couch
Most First Ladies do not have a colorful past like Ivy. As one of the members of girl group Xscape, Ivy lived the partying life of a pop star. But since meeting her husband Mark, pastor of the Emanuel Tabernacle Church, Ivy is singing a different tune. She is now a dutiful First Lady, wife, and mother to a one-year old son. However, her not-so-wholesome past helps Ivy relate to and connect with her inner city congregation.
Here is Ivy and Mark performing the song “Hold On To Be Strong.”
