Brett Best is a director from South Africa whose boyfriend has something of a crush on Captain Picard (because, honestly–who doesn’t have at least a little bit of a crush on Picard).
So, when the time came to propose, Best thought he’d take a shot in the dark and try to get in touch with Patrick Stewart for help making a short video proposal.
Stewart, though, was unavailable, due to his many commitments as a man of impeccable taste and good cheer.
Evidently Ian McKellen had a brief window in his own whirlwind schedule of fun, as Best’s attempts to get in touch with him were successful. Check out the resulting proposal below:
Though it takes its cue-cards-in-lieu-of-spoken-word premise from a somewhat ill-fated scene in the British Christmas rom-com Love Actually, Best’s proposal had a happier ending.
His boyfriend, Khalid Shawwa, said yes.
As for that bit about McKellen performing Stewart’s own (most recent) wedding? Yep, that happened: Magneto wedded Professor X to his bride, 35-year-old Sunny Ozell, last year.
