The Real L Word’s Mikey Koffman is a chopper lovin’ producer of L.A. Fashion Week
Showtime’s new docudrama The Real L Word is a mix between the premium network’s fictional The L Word soap and Bravo’s rambunctious Real Housewives franchise.
Premiering tonight at 10pm, the series follows five hot and sexy lesbians as they openly talk about their sex lives and struggle with personal problems. An early criticism of the show is that much of it seems a bit forced, and focuses on a set of women much more focused on superficial glamour than the average lesbian. Others argue that that’s the point: they live in L.A., where most women look and act like aliens compared to the rest of the U.S. population, so of course they’re prettier, thinner, and live more glamourous lives than the average lady-lovin’ Jane. But the show’s main focus is ratings, not accurate social depictions, so get ready for lots of cursing, skin, and sex, sex, sex!
The crew is mostly a group of lipstick lesbians, but the most butch of the group is Mikey Koffman, a former motorcycle shop owner who now produces L.A. Fashion Week through her event company The Gallery LA. She spent a great deal of her youth working on cars and motorcycles, and interned at West Coast Choppers before opening up her very own chopper shop in Long Beach, Sin Cycles. She launched a clothing line, and slowly became more aligned with the fashion scene until she completely switched career path.
On the show she’s thinking about marrying her partner Raquel Castaneda, though her job doesn’t allow for much time for them to spend time together. Raquel was the first love of Mikey’s life, but Raquel broke it off with Mikey for Jesus. Even though they parted, they still rekindled their flame everytime they ran into each other, and Mikey explains that once Raquel got sober (apparently she wasn’t just gettin’ high off of Jesus), they got back together. Here’s Mikey talking about her experience filming The Real L Word:
