Portia de Rossi and her wife Ellen DeGeneres have been married for nearly five years. While most couples would be planning for children at that point, these two have no such plans. In the latest issue of Out Magazine, Portia opens up about why she and Ellen have opted against expanding their family.

“There comes some pressure in your mid-30s, and you think, Am I going to have kids so I don’t miss out on something that other people really seem to love?'” Portia explains. “Or is it that I really genuinely want to do this with my whole heart? I didn’t feel that my response was ‘yes’ to the latter.”

“You have to really want to have kids, and neither of us did,” she adds. “So it’s just going to be me and Ellen and no babies.”

As for married life, Portia says that things with her and Ellen couldn’t be better. “We really support each other in whatever we’re doing and we’re incredibly happy, which is why you don’t see us in the press so much. There’s no drama to report.”

“Married life is blissful, it really is,” she tells Out. “I’ve never been happier than I am right now.”

Although Portia and Ellen won’t be having any children of their own, they do have several pets to keep them company including three dogs and four cats.
