Each morning I sift through hundreds of celebrity photos comprised mostly of female cable network reality stars getting coffee or tired musicians arriving or departing from LAX. The seemingly never-ending stream of monotonous and mundane D-List images is broken up on occasion by the excitingly controversial (Jesse James giving a Nazi salute), the sexy and marketable (thank you inventor of the bikini!), the undeniably adorable (Suri Cruise with umbrella) and the purely fun (Lady Gaga every other day).
The latter category of “purely fun” has its staples, with the likes of Gaga, Katy Perry and Phoebe Price consistently bringing a smile to my lips, but it’s always such a pleasant surprise to get that same feeling from a completely unexpected source. That’s exactly what happened when I ran across photos of Marina Lambrini Diamandis “arriving at the BBC Radio One studios for a morning interview with Scott Mills.”
The description sounds boring enough, but Marina easily transcends Flynet’s description as well as the drab gray and brown streetscape outside of BBC Radio One studios by wearing a brightly colored cartoon hippopotamus dress with extremely exaggerated hips!
What isn’t to like about this outfit?!? Marina has little itty bitty hippo ears on her boobs and impossibly fluorescent pink lipstick that matches her dress… It’s goofy, clumsy and sexy all in one!
I suppose I could ramble on and on about Marina hippolicious outfit, but it speaks for itself way better than I ever could. In lieu of further rambling, I’ll just embed a video from Marina and the Diamonds’ debut full length album Family Jewels. The song is called “Mowgli’s Road” (a reference to The Jungle Book, not Pete Wentz and Ashley Simpson’s son) and it further showcases Marina’s sense of fashion humor and playfulness:
