PHOTOS Gorgeous Belgian soccer fan wins L’Oreal modeling contract upon returning from the World Cup
For Axelle Despiegelaere, being in the right place at the right time has paid off in a big way.
Despiegelaere, 17, was photographed cheering wildly for the Belgian national team during its World Cup match against Russia on June 22. In typical soccer fan fashion, she wore her nation’s colors on her face–and in her pom-poms, and on a horned Belgium cap.
Once home, her Facebook fan page scored over 200,000 followers in a matter of days, prompting cosmetics company L’Oreal to offer Despiegelaere a modeling contract based on the few viral photos of her.
Naturally, the Belgian teen accepted. L’Oreal has taken to calling her “la plus belle des supportrices de la coupe du monde” or the most beautiful World Cup supporter.
Her rise to stardom hasn’t been without controversy, however.
Another photo has also emerged: this of Despiagelaere hunting big game in Africa. Specifically, the Oyrx Gazella:
It’s worth pointing out that the Gazella–or “gemsbok” in Afrikaans and Dutch–is classified “Least Concern” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
L’Oreal, which has been criticized for testing its products on animals in China, has not commented on the photo.
Nor has it revealed what Despiegelaere’s modeling contract is worth.
