You know those people who think handwritten thank-you notes are archaic? Lorde isn’t among them.
After winning two Grammy Awards on Sunday night, the teenager asked the New Zealand Herald to publish a letter to her fans. In the note — which featured a cute sketch of the Grammy trophy — Lorde thanked those who’ve supported since she was “discovered” 14 months ago.
To transcribe, she said: “Hiya. If you are reading this, Joel & I won. HOLY CRAP. it was a crazy day & my friends & family over here are still freaking out. I just wanted to say thank you for the time you’ve given me these past 14 months. Finding out about me online or in between these pages or in your headphones.
Without your support, there’s no way I would ever have gotten to stand in the middle of the Staples Centre & perform in my school shoes. I can’t wait for tonight’s show. Together we’ll make it magic. I’ll see you there. xxx L”
As she referenced in the note, Lorde performed for nearly 10,000 people at Silo Park in Auckland, New Zealand. NZ City said arrived back in her home country from Los Angeles just hours before the show. Still, she seemed energized…
“I’m sorry for swearing,” she told the audience during the show. “But I f**king won two Grammys.”
On Sunday, Lorde became the fourth Kiwi singer to earn a Grammy. She was immediately preceded by Kimbra, who won two Grammys in 2013 for her Gotye duet, “Somebody That I Used to Know.”
