Nikki Yanofsky is now the toast of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics after singing the national anthem, “O Canada” during the opening ceremonies and recording “I Believe,” the official theme of Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium.

Over 3 billion people watched Nikki’s live broadcast performance during the opening ceremonies, many of them witnessing Nikki’s striking talent for the first time. Others, however, have known about Nikki’s incredible voice for a while, Nikki was only 12 when she opened at the Montreal Jazz Festival, dropping jaws with her incredible imitation of Ella Fitzgerald. Nikki’s first love is jazz, and her first album titled Nikki will be jazz inspired and includes songs written for her by Feist, Ron Sexsmith, and Jesse Harris (who’s written for Norah Jones.) She’s developed her singing voice by imitating or transcribing the voice of Ella, Billy, and others, and then growing into her own signature style.
