Bruce Beresford-Redman’s possible motive for murdering his wife: $5 million life insurance policy?

Bruce Beresford-Redman and wife Monica Beresford-Redman

“Survivor” and “Pimp My Ride” producer Bruce Beresford-Redman is still being held in Cancun as a suspect of his wife Monica Beresford-Redman’s murder. There are reports that Monica recently found out Bruce was cheating on her with casting director Joy Pierce and the couple had retreated to the Moon Palace resort in Cancun, Mexico to repair their shattered marriage.

Witnesses at the hotel have said the couple fought repeatedly during the trip before Monica Beresford-Redman disappeared last Monday night and was found dead Thursday morning in a sewer near the luxury resort the two were staying at. She had been strangled and suffered a blow to the head, but it is not believed that she was killed there.

Their children, ages 3 and 5, had also accompanied them on the trip, but they are currently in the custody of Bruce Beresford-Redman’s parents. Authorities are currently piecing together the evidence, and many believe that Bruce Beresford-Redman will be arrested and charged with the crime.

Initial speculation suggested that perhaps Bruce had killed Monica during a heated argument, but last night on Nancy Grace legal correspondent Jean Casarez mentioned something about a $5 million life insurance policy that Bruce upgraded for Monica just months before her murder. The beneficiaries are the couple’s children, but they are only 3 and 5, which would leave Bruce plenty of time to spend the money while he cared for them. According to reports from friends of the family, Monica first found out about Bruce’s affair approximately three months ago. (CLICK HERE to see a pic of Beresford-Redman’s mistress Joy Pierce.)

Here’s what Jean Casarez said:

“Well, the insurance policy was taken out just months ago, $5 million, and the beneficiaries were her children. So at first glance, you say, Well, the children were the beneficiaries. But the person that raises the children could also, in essence, benefit from that life insurance policy.”

We’re not sure where Jean Casarez got this piece of information, if it has anything to do with the murders, or if it’s even true.

But if this is true, and Beresford-Redman really did murder his wife, he might have been planning this Cancun nightmare for a while.

There was an in-depth piece posted yesterday afternoon on the Facebook account of Monica’s friend that mentions the life insurance policy as well as a laundry list of other suspicious factors in the case:

…So lets keep our thoughts elevated, remembering her smile and the strength and joy she shared. I still however, can’t let go of the fact that the person who did this is still free and the desire to see JUSTICE be made is strong. There are so many facts that point to Bruce (her husband) as being the person who committed this crime. The fact that he was cheating on her and she found out, that their marriage was in turmoil, that she wanted to go to Dubai and he appeared with tickets for Mexico last minute, that he made sure that they did a life insurance before traveling, that the hotel staff witnessed them fighting and heard screams and furniture being throwned around in the room and when they called the room he answered saying everything was ok, that he had scratched on his face and neck and blood on his clothes, and that they didn’t take the nanny who would go to every trip with them, that he has already made arrangements to cremate the body as soon as it it released so that the possibility of another autopsy and any extra evidence that can be found is erased… I really hope that the FBI can get involved in this investigation, but because it happened in Mexico, that becomes really complicated… So, it looks like he really planned everything…I pray for JUSTICE! And I trust that if man justice fails, divine justice won’t.

There sure seems to be a lot of smoke here for there not to be a fire.
