Ariana Grande: My mom thought I’d become a serial killer because of my childhood tendencies
Nickelodeon darling Ariana Grande has cultivated quite the squeaky-clean image, but she admits she hasn’t always been about the “sunshine and puppies” lifestyle.
“I think people see me as a little cutesy thing,” the 21-year-old singer told Billboard. “But I’m literally the most sardonic person you’ve ever met.”
Explaining she went through a “dark and deranged” phase and was like a “mini-Helena Bonham Carter” during her childhood, Ariana said she “always wanted to have skeleton face paint on or be wearing a Freddy Krueger mask.” She even had a Jaws-themed fifth birthday that was so gruesome all her guests left in tears.
Even though mom Joan Grande supported Ariana’s (harmless if unusual) interests, she worried about what it would all lead to. Ariana said, “There was a stage, when I was 3 or 4, where my mom thought I might grow up to be a serial killer.”
Instead, she appeared on Broadway, become a popular Nickelodeon star and has a few hit songs to her name… Sounds like the best scenario for all of us.
