Ben Affleck makes official announcement about Senate run

Right around the same time that Ben Affleck decided it was in his best interest not to be in a film with Kristen Stewart, rumors swirled about a possible Senate run for the politically motivated actor and director.

John Kerry has been nominated by President Obama to be the new Secretary of State which will leave his Senate seat in Massachusetts vacant. Affleck was one of the first names bandied about when this happened, but the director of Argo set the record straight:

“I love Massachusetts and our political process, but I am not running for office. We are about to get a great Secretary of State and there are some phenomenal candidates in Massachusetts for his Senate seat. I look forward to an amazing campaign.”

He did vow to continue his works on behalf of the Eastern Congo Initiative, which he founded, and with fighting hunger in the United States.

So he’s not acting alongside Kristen Stewart in a film that would require intimate scenes and not running for a Senate seat. I think Affleck is demonstrating the positive power and wisdom of sometimes saying, “No.”
