According to recent reports, Prince died in the midst of a frantic attempt to provide the “Purple Rain” singer with drug addiction treatment.

Representatives for Prince reached out to Dr. Howard Kornfeld, a renowned expert in the field of opiate addiction treatment, on the night of April 20. Kornfeld, who runs Recovery Without Walls in California, was unable to make the trip immediately, so he sent his son, Andrew Kornfeld, in his stead.

Andrew took a red-eye flight and arrived at Prince’s Paisley Park estate in Minneapolis at around 9:30 AM on April 21. Initially, Prince’s people at the facility were unable to find Andrew–and, in a tragic twist, Andrew Kornfeld was the man who called 911 after Prince’s body was found in an elevator.

An attorney for Kornfeld told the Star Tribune, “The plan was to quickly evaluate his health and devise a treatment plan….The doctor was planning on a lifesaving mission.” Sources said that when Howard Kornfeld was contacted he suggested Prince be checked by an area physician and stabilized ASAP.

Andrew Kornfeld had a small amount of buprenorphine to give to Prince, but it was never administered, the attorney added.
