This season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta has featured behind-the-scenes footage of the Kenya Moore penned and directed television series Life Twirls On starring herself as well as Brandon Deshazer, D. Woods and Janet Hubert. So what, exactly, is the comedy series about? And did Bravo pick up the first season? Reportedly yes!
First, a little history of Life Twirls On. Kenyoncé first publicly revealed she was adding television auteur to her Bravontrepreneurial resume with a casting call on November 4. “I’m getting married!!!” Kenya wrote on Instagram with the photo below. “If you want to be an extra in my TV show tomorrow 12-5 in Jonesboro, Ga please email lifetwirlsonextras@gmail.com need to be in formal wear looking fabulous all races. No children.”

A couple of days later Jet published an interview with Kenya in which she revealed more info about the show. “It’s scripted,” Kenya said. “The TV show is a half-hour comedy loosely based on my life. It’s funny, it shows me in a situation where I have two sisters. We move in together to try and resolve our differences–we’re all at different crossroads in our lives. It’s very exciting. I’m getting a lot of positive feedback.”

In that last photo you can see actress Janet Hubert, who is most famous for playing Aunt Liv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (which was the show that Kenya got her first speaking role on, by the way). As we previously reported, Janet and Kenya appear to have had a MAJOR falling out over contract issues surrounding Life Twirls On. From what Janet has stated via her “Blacktress Janet Hubert” persona online, she was asked to sign a contract to have her work filming Life Twirls on featured on The Real Housewives of Atlanta (apparently without any extra money) and she refused. As a result, she has reportedly not yet been paid for her work. She has threatened legal action against Kenya via the Screen Actors Guild.
After taking a couple of months off, Kenya Moore and the crew reportedly began post-production work in California earlier this month. According to LA Late, Bravo has picked up Life Twirls On and plans to air five episodes in 2015.
“On Sunday night, LALATE exclusively reported that Kenya Moore Life Twirls On has been green lighted by BravoTV,” reports the site. “The limited series run will span roughly five episodes.”

The show is expected air after the RHOA reunion. The big question is whether Moore was able to negotiate and secure the coveted Bravo Sunday night timeslot, the most sought after slot for the network. It also remains unclear if Bravo will badge the show with an RHOA title like they did with Kandi Burruss’ spinoff last year.

This report has yet to be confirmed, and to be honest, I SERIOUSLY doubt Bravo picked up the series. The network is just beginning to get into original scripted programming, and have already had a critical success with Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce, so I can’t imagine they would risk their credibility in this new field by taking a chance on a project like Life Twirls On. That being said, Bravo (thanks mostly to Andy Cohen) has always had a great sense of humor about itself as well as a profound admiration for camp, so perhaps they would air the series figuring that expectations would be so low that there wouldn’t be any real risk.
Despite my doubts, I have to confess that I would be glued to my TV set with popcorn in hand for the Life Twirls On premiere if it does eventually air on Bravo! Of course, my anticipation would be that I’d be laughing a lot AT the show and not with it. 🙂
