VIDEO Ellen surprises Ruby Tuesday waitress who bought furloughed soliders’ lunches

Ruby Tuesday waitress Sarah Hoidahl cries on Ellen

Ellen DeGeneres has once again made sure that good things happen to good people. On the October 18 episode of Ellen, everybody’s favorite (well, millions of people’s favorite, anyway) talk show host gave 22-year-old Ruby Tuesday server and single mom Sarah Hoidahl a huge surprise:

Is there anything better than happy tears?!?

And just in case you couldn’t watch the clip for whatever reason, here is the back story on Sarah as well as a clip recap.

Sarah Hoidahl became something of an internet sensation after she bought lunch for two National Guard soldiers at her restaurant in Concord, N.H. “They were looking through the menu and they said they were trying to keep it light. They mentioned the government shutdown, that they were furloughed and not getting paid,” Sarah explained. “I just decided, ‘I’m going to do something good today, I’m going to buy their lunch for them.'”

So, rather than getting a bill, the two women soldiers got a note from Sarah, which went viral after one of them posted it to her Facebook page:

“Thanks to the gov. shutdown, people like you that protect this country are not getting paid,” she wrote. “However, I still am. Lunch is on me! Thank you for serving, ladies! Have a good day!”

Ellen shared Sarah’s story with her viewers then paid the amount of bill to Sarah in cash ($27.75). Sarah seemed very appreciative of the gesture (and for being invited on the show in the first place), and was completely shocked when Ellen presented her with a brand new HUGE television. The shock and awwwwwww campaign continued when Ellen’s assistant brought out an over-sized check for $10,000 made out to Sarah, which Ellen signed live.

Sarah was in a wondrous state of tearful shock throughout.
