A state by state list of the top baby names of 2011

Whenever a celebrity has a new baby the two big things everyone looks for is a photo and the name. I’ve always found the process of choosing a name for new little ones fascinating. Some couples pour over the thought forever while some moms and dads take around 5 minutes to make the decision.

Thanks to the folks from iVillage we have a breakdown of the most popular boys and girls name for all 50 states. Check it out! I think I see a little pop culture influence on a boy name and girl name that continues to show up.

Wow nice to see nobody is creative lol

      • noname

No kidding. Sophia, William, Sophia, William, Sophia. Soo boring.

        • Katie

Lol you took the words right out of my mouth. All these names are such a bore hahaha.

      • Ashley

Eh it’s better than naming your kid something crazy imo.

    • Stacy

I think perhaps they are taking both first and middle name into account. My son’s middle name is William (his father’s middle name) but I haven’t seen a trend of people using that as a first name? I think this poll is off perhaps? but I agree the same “cutesy” names get used a lot. There are several Emma’s and Avery’s and Sophia’s in my son’s preschool class. But then again I’m sure when I was a baby every other kid was named Ashley, Britney or Jessica…. to each their own

      • Stephanie

Exactly, every generation has their own popular names.

A lot of these names feel like they’ve been pulled out of a Jane Austen book.

    • Shhh..it’s a wig

What’s going on in West Virginia that everyone’s naming their sons Madison? That always struck me more as a girls name.

    • kim

i see why they put of a baby picture of Mason now

      • Kim

        put up*
