VIDEO Kirk Cameron wants women to save Christmas by being joyful in the kitchen

Kirk Cameron Saving Christmas

I didn’t know Christmas needed saving. But Growing Pains actor-turned-evangalist Kirk Cameron says it does. In fact, he made a whole movie about saving Christmas. It’s creatively titled Saving Christmas and apparently features him as a nativity scene-protecting crusader. (He must have bought the rights from Marvel.)

To promote the upcoming blockbuster, Kirk gifted a video to all the moms, wives and keepers of homes out there with his tips for how they can contribute to the cause…

Here’s what he said…

If you are a mom, if you are a wife, if you’re the keeper of your home, I want you to know that your joy is so important this Christmas. Because Christmas is about joy and if the joy of the Lord is your strength, remember, the joy of the mom is her children’s strength. So don’t let anything steal your joy. If you let your joy get stolen, it will sap your strength. Let your children, your family, see your joy in the way that you decorate your home this Christmas, in the food that you cook, the songs you sing, the stories you tell, and the traditions that you keep. Invite your whole neighborhood into your Christmas, and invite the world into our story of our king and his kingdom. Join me and go see Saving Christmas November 14.

Really, there’s nothing too unexpected there. (I almost wrote “crazy,” but that’s up for interpretation.) Kirk, like his friends the Duggars and sister Candace Cameron Bure, believes in very rigid, very traditional gender roles. The men aren’t going to help out in the kitchen and the women aren’t going to do much yard work.

Does that mean we should give him a pass for suggesting saying women should force smiles on their faces when baking sugar cookies for the next month? Absolutely not. Instead, maybe parents can share joy with their kids by doing things that actually make them joyful. Despite what Kirk thinks, Christmas will go on — even if moms (or dads!) grab some pre-baked cookies from the grocery store.
