True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto reveals first details of season 2
Rust Cohle will tell you, in only the way he can, that time is a flat circle and like his partner Marty Hart I would add that I ain’t so sure about that jibber jabber – but I do know it already seems like an eternity since the incredible first season ended.
After the dust settled on Carcosa and the light maybe started winning, show mastermind Nic Pizolatto has stayed mum on any specifics about one of the most highly-anticipated 2nd seasons in TV history… That is, until now!
Via Uproxx, Pizzolatto recently sat down with To the Best of Our Knowledge for a lengthy podcast in which he provided a couple of details for all us amateur Cohle and Harts to pour over.
He said:
“Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did with season one. The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them. We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting within the coming month.”
So much for the deluge of “already been cast” rumors! Three leads sounds intriguing, especially when Nic goes all True Detective-speak with the term “psychosphere ambience.”
Speaking of amateur detective work… Way back in March (had to be longer than that) Pizzolatto hinted at this Cali connection to Buzzfeed with an even more specific target for a possible setting:
NP: Oh, all kinds of conspiracies suggest themselves. Especially if, like me, you’ve been reading about the last 40 years of Southern California government.
BF: Forget it, Nic, it’s Chinatown! I assume you won’t say more than that, but please do feel free to, of course. How long did it take for this show to come together, and given its scale and that you’re the sole writer and the bar for casting is high, does it seem like something that could happen once a year?
NP: Man… I’m tempted to utter just one word, but I can’t. I gotta stay mum on the next season till it’s more concrete.
Looks like we’ll be finding out who the actual leads are sooner than later.
