Piers Morgan cites gun ramblings and poor ratings for CNN cancellation

Piers Morgan tried his best to fill the suspenders of the legend Larry King but after 3 years he’s out as the host of Piers Morgan Live on CNN.

Morgan told the New York Times, “Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it.”

The show was hitting bottoms in the ratings with as little as 50,000 viewers in the all-important 25-54-year-old demographic last week. He did say that he’s looking for another way to stay on with CNN, hopefully one that people will watch and will not include tiring gun debates with Ted Nugent.

“I think I can credibly do news and the ratings reflect that, but it is not really the show that I set out to do. There are all kinds of people who can do news here. I’d like to do work — interviews with big celebrities and powerful people — that is better suited to what I do well and fit with what Jeff Zucker (CNN president) is trying to do with the network.”

The end of his run could come as early as next month.
