AMC’s cult favorite reality series Small Town Security returns tonight at 11/10c. In celebration of our favorite batch of eccentric peace keepers making their return to the small screen, we though we’d share some throwback photos of Joan and Irwin Koplan from their rowdier days.

Small Town Security: Chief Joan Koplan and Dennis Croft’s atypical relationship

AMC’s new reality show Small Town Security is different that most reality shows. The editing is pure art, and the people featured are endlessly fascinating.

Of special note are 61-year-old almost-starlet (and almost-sheriff) Joan Koplan, who’s the “Chief” of small town security firm JJK and her lieutenant, 43-year-old Dennis Croft, who just five years ago was Denise Croft. Both of their back stories deserve an extra-long post, but what makes these people even more fascinating is their relationship, which borders on the romantic (especially for Dennis.)

AMC unleashed the crew of JJK Security, out of Ringgold, GA, on to the TV landscape in a serious way by giving it the coveted time slot after the season premiere of Breaking Bad. The unquestioned head b in charge of Small Town Security is “The Chief” Joan Koplan. But the lady who seems to try her best to keep all the boys in line is secretary extraordinaire Christa Stephens. See some great candid photos of Christa from an old MySpace account, get bio info and even see her sing at an open mic night. Maybe I could get a detective job with her company!
