Bo Burnham’s show Zach Stone is Gonna be Famous canceled by MTV
MTV canceled the low-ranking comedy Zach Stone is Gonna be Famous, which was created by and starred Bo Burnham. The network is also opting to air the three remaining episodes this week.
“After careful consideration of many factors, we have ultimately decided not to move forward with an additional season of the series,” a representative from MTV said in a statement to Hollywood Reporter. “We wish Bo, the cast and the entire production crew the very best.”
Before the final call was passed down, Bo predicted the outcome in a series of tweets.
For those asking, MTV airing the final 3 ZS this week, 2 on Saturday, is most certainly a sign that they won’t order a second season… I am very grateful for and proud of the 12 episodes we’re were allowed to make. And thank you so much to everyone who has watched it… I have had an obscenely lucky life. I am in awe of being able to have made a show and share it with you. Enjoy the end Zach! (for now)
According to TV By the Numbers, Zach Stone premiered to disappointing numbers in May. Viewership has only declined since then. This is the third time in less than a year MTV has fallen short with scripted comedy series. Fortunately, there’s still Awkward, which is currently in a mid-season break.
There’s also no reason to cry for Bo: Having a failed cable show at 22 years old really isn’t that much of a failure.
