George Clooney sat down with Piers Morgan for his new gig on CNN replacing Larry King and revealed a rather shocking bit of information in regards to any future plans for matrimony. Clooney stated:
“I hate to blow your whole news story, but I was married, so I gave it a shot,” he said. “I’ve proven how good I was at it, and I just…I’m allowed one.”
Sorry current girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis and all the other millions of woman across the globe who just had their distant hopes shattered. So who is this one and only woman who will ever have the privilege of walking down the aisle with Mr. Clooney? Her name is Talia Balsam; the two were married from 1989 to 1992.
Balsam is a successful actress in her own right having starred in the TV shows Without a Trace and another one you may have heard of called Mad Men. That’s right, George Clooney’s ex is none other than Mona Sterling, the wife of silver-haired Roger Sterling portrayed by John Slattery who just so happens to be Balsam’s husband! Well at least Talia was able to move on and take that forever chance again.
Talia also appears on the big screen in the current number one box office movie in America “No Strings Attached.” In the film she plays Natalie Portman’s (29) mom and just because I could I discovered that Clooney’s girlfriend, the stunning model Elisabetta Canalis, is 32. Men right!?!
Well I got to give it to Talia Balsam, not only is she talented and beautiful but she hangs with Natalie Portman, is married to a good looking Mad Men actor, has a beautiful family and will be the only woman George Clooney ever says, “I do” to. That’s impressive! (She was also on an episode of The Larry Sanders Show.)
But why did she and Clooney get divorced? Basically because he’s not a one-woman kind of guy. He once told Vanity Fair “I probably – definitely – wasn’t someone who should have been married at that point. I just don’t feel like I gave Talia a fair shot.”

Even though George isn’t the marryin’ kind, his parents Nick and Nina have been happily married for over 50 years, and even renewed their vows in 2007. His dad expressed to Piers that he’d like his son to consider marriage, but George just isn’t down for it. He is, however, grateful for the wonder life he’s been able to have as an actor:
“I’ve got a very good life. I’m infinitely a lucky man. I was a struggling actor for a long time and before that I sold ladies shoes at a store called McAlpine’s. Before that I sold insurance door-to-door – that was a fun job. I cut tobacco for a living and somewhere along the way I got lucky. I did eight television series before ER hit and if we didn’t get a Thursday night at 10pm time slot, you know, I wouldn’t have the career that I have.”
