Britne Oldford’s got a lot to live up to in her role of Cadie in the US version on the UK teen television cult series Skins. The US version (which films in Toronto, incidentally) is playing most of it’s characters off of the originally UK Skins cast (the cast turns over every two years), and Cadie is the US’s answer to the eating disordered and emotionally unbalanced Cassie Ainsworth (Hannah Murray), who was one of the most engrossing characters on the show.
Cassie was a waifish girl with powerful eyes who, because she was ignored at home, so took every opportunity to seek attention from her group of hard-partying peers. On paper it’s a stereotype character, but Hannah Murray gave Cassie an unnerving authenticity and grace.
Britne’s character Cadie doesn’t seem to have an eating disorder (according to early information about the show), but she is billed as pretty much batshit k-razy and addicted to pills.
According to Britne’s interview with Collider:
She’s going to be much different from Cassie in the original. She loves pills and just wants more pills. Her mood is that she’ll be crazy-happy one minute, and then she’ll want people to leave her alone the next minute. The whole thing is, “Is she crazy or is she not crazy?” I’m really excited to play her because Hannah Murray’s character, Cassie, in the original was one of my favorite characters. Of course, Cadie is going to be a lot different, but I hope she has the same affect on people.
Oldford is a recent high school graduate at an arts school where she majored in theater and minored in vocals. She also seems quite comfy with an ukule, which scores some points on the quirk meter.
Britne found out about the Skins audition at 10:30 p.m. the night before, and showed up in a Pokemon t-shirt to stand out. Guess it worked.
