VIDEO – Why was Ellen Barkin “shoved” by a cop on New Year’s Eve?

It’s hard not to love Ellen Barkin. She’s one of Andy Cohen’s favorite guests, was once married to Gabriel Byrne, does little more but curse on Twitter, AND she’s an uber cougar who’s probably dating a man 30 years her junior (27-year-old director Sam Levinson.)

New Year’s Eve, though, it looks like she took her awesomeness too far by overreacting to an interaction with the NYC police. She was with her boy Sam on the streets of the New York in the last moments of 2011 when she tried to help a young Occupy Wall Street protester who was getting arrested. Sam hid behind a car and captured the whole thing on video, and later posted it on Twitter. The officers (who appeared to not recognize her) slowly guided her to the sidewalk with their hands while saying “Sidewalk, miss”, and she responded in true Barkin form with “Get your motherf**king hands off me.”

She then took to her Twitter to tell her version of the events: “Just threatened on my street by NYPD,cop shoved me,both hands, onto sidewalk..Is it a crime 2 stand in the street in NY?WTF is going on here?”

There’s no story on what was exactly going on the with arrest the cops were making, but it looks like the didn’t go out of control while handling a citizen trying to interfere with an arrest.

What do you think? Did Ellen overreact here or was she treated unfairly by the police?
