VIDEO TLC’s Breaking the Faith preview trailer
This Sunday is the premiere of TLC’s new series Breaking the Faith which “shares the story of eight young men and women who are trying to build a new life outside of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (known as the FLDS).” Earlier this week we shared photos and bios of all the cast members and today the network released the first extended preview trailer, which is a frighteningly dramatic look at the situations faced by the 5-10,000 people living under the “brainwashing” tactics of the FLDS and its leader, Warren Jeffs.
From the trailer:
On the borders of Utah and Arizona is the home of a secretive community, known as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS).
Six young women trapped in this polygamist sect are jeopardizing everything for a chance at freedom. They are taught that the punishment for leaving is eternal damnation.
Four men who are outcasts from the church will risk their own safety to rescue them.
If successful, these women will attempt to start new lives in the outside world. This is their story…
Actually, Ben may have put it better:
So it appears that the show, at least the early episodes, will feature a Mission Impossible (Mission Sinpossible?) inspired series of events in which the “Lost Boys” draw up a plan to rescue these damnedsels in distress. After that, the real adventure will begin as the ladies try to adjust to a world full of Facebook, chocolate covered potato chips and twerking. Sounds like fun!
Breaking the Faith premieres Sunday, November 24 at 8/7c on TLC.
From the press release that accompanied the trailer:
This Sunday, Nov. 24, TLC takes viewers into the hidden, controversial world of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS), led the Infamous Warren Jeffs, who remains the church’s president – and self-described prophet – despite his 2011 conviction on two felony counts of child sexual assault.
The FLDS religion remains one of the most secretive communities in America and is often in the headlines for its extreme beliefs and behaviors… It’s a world of unquestioned authority, arranged marriage, and little contact to the outside world. With an estimated 10,000 followers of the church, no series has fully explored the experiences of individuals who choose to leave the compound – until now.
BREAKING THE FAITH shares the story of a nine young men and women who are trying to build a new life outside of the FLDS – either by choice, or by force. For the young men, they are cast-outs from their homes and not welcomed back, while the women are escaping the controlling ways of the cult and hoping for a better life on the outside. Leaving a life where every decision was made for them, they are now faced with making life-altering decisions and dealing with the challenges of living in a world where they are responsible for every decision they do make. Though they’ll finally experience freedom, it comes with the fear that retribution for leaving the compound will come without warning.
