VIDEO Coolio performs acoustic ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ with UK college students

Coolio acoustic Gangsta's Paradise Great Britain

In addition to Hump Day and Woman Crush Wednesday today is also apparently Mind-Blowingly Awesome Acoustic Mash-Up Performance Day because fresh on the heels of The Roots and Miley Cyrus’ gleefully addictive a capella rendition of “We Can’t Stop” we have this viral video gem featuring Coolio singing his smash hit “Gangsta’s Paradise” with acoustic guitar accompaniment and backing vocals by a group of Great Britain’s University of Central Lancashire students.

Here’s the description of the clip by the person who uploaded it to Youtube followed by the video:

Met Coolio on a student night out in Preston and he said he wanted to cook for me and my house mates the following night and that’s exactly what happened. We decided to take a break from the cooking and have a jam session. Most surreal night of our lives! 4.15 is rapping at its best!

The video was recorded after Coolio had a performance in England and met a couple of the students in the VIP area of the venue. He took a shine to the students and… offered to cook them dinner?!? Yep! (He’s not named Coolio for nothin’ y’all!)

Coolio popped into a grocery store to pick up some supplies (reportedly on his dime of course), then he headed over to the students’ apartment (or flat) where he reportedly made them a Caprese salad, peach crumble and something called “Chicken á la Daaaamn.” After doing some cooking (you can see some of the grub in the video) Coolio sat on the couch and delivered the most killer frat lodge rendition of “Gangsta’s Paradise” ever!

Sadly, whoever shot the video didn’t shoot it landscape so it’s hard to get the vibe of the whole room. I spent a little too much time in Photoshop creating this panoramic photo that I think does an OK job:

I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking it’s about time Coolio changed his name… to Badassio. (That seemed better than Coolasshitio.)

And, just in case…

UPDATE – Coolio tweeted about the evening:
