Prison Wives Club star Kate DeMarco’s husband Carlo DeMarco conviction details
Tonight is the premiere of Lifetime’s new reality series Prison Wives Club starring four women from the state of Washington who are currently either married or engaged to convicted felons who are still serving prison time. We’ve been profiling the “Prison Husbands” on the show, sharing information on the crimes that got them convicted as well as the length of their sentences and how much time they have left to serve.
Today we are profiling Carlo DeMarco, the husband of cast member Kate DeMarco. Carlo, who is now 30, is currently serving a ten-year sentence after pleading guilty in 2011 to first degree assault for a 2009 shooting that took place outside of an auto body shop in Everett, Washington.
The victim was reportedly showing his car to a potential buyer when DeMarco (seen in the photo above) opened fire from behind in broad daylight, shooting the man in the gut and arm. The victim was hospitalized and survived.
According to DeMarco’s defense attorney, Pete Mazzone, his client was concerned about his safety because he had recently fired the man and he was worried that he wanted revenge, plus there was a rumor that the man had broken into DeMarco’s house. Earlier on the day of the shooting, the man reportedly gave DeMarco a dirty look and “Carlo DeMarco simply lost it,” Mazzone said.
In between the shooting and his sentencing DeMarco was able to attend and graduate from Evergreen Beauty and Barber College. (Which is the same Beauty College that Kate’s co-star Jhemini graduated from.) He got a job cutting hair at Chop It Up, and he married Kate in March of 2011, which was less than three weeks before his sentencing.
In the premiere episode Kate reveals that she currently “runs with a pack of lesbians” and says Carlo doesn’t mind that she hooks up with girls. She also says that the last-minute wedding made it so that she and Carlo could have conjugal visits for 24 hours once a month in an on-grounds house.
Here is a photo from Carlo and Kate’s wedding:
Carlo’s family argued at his sentencing that since the shooting he had done his best to be an upstanding citizen, and Carlo confessed to the court that “By far this is the biggest mistake I’ve ever made,” but Superior Court Judge Kenneth Cowsert seemed unswayed. “There’s no way to mitigate what you did or make it go away,” Judge Cowsert said before handing down the ten-year prison sentence.
Carlo is currently about three-and-a-half years into his ten-year sentence and is incarcerated at the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center in Connell, Washington.
Meanwhile, Kate DeMarco is already taking some heat for being on the show, although it’s apparently not for reasons you might think, but instead because some people consider her “too fancy” to be married to a prisoner. Here’s how she recently addressed the “haters” on Facebook (with the photo she included):
What exactly are you thinking a #prisonwife should look like? A lot of people seem to think I’m too #fancy for this role – #LADIES : No matter what the situation is, take #PRIDE in yourself! Always be the best that you can be. I’m not locked up – my husband is. #PrisonWivesClub #prettygirls #toughgirls #fineline #missunderstood
