VIDEO Zoe Ball reveals new Doctor Who is Peter Capaldi on BBC One special

In the second biggest announcement in Great Britain this year, the BBC has revealed the identity of the 12th incarnation of Doctor Who as 55-year-old actor Peter Capaldi! The announcement came during a BBC One telecast with Zoe Ball during which Capaldi (star of The Thick of It) was in attendance to talk about getting the role and what it means to him. Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who prior to Season 8

Just a couple weeks after the announcement that the BBC’s revitalized Doctor Who series would be returning for an eighth season, the network delivered a bit of bad news to fans by announcing today that the show’s star since 2010, Matt Smith, is leaving prior to the new season. According to the BBC’s announcement (included in its entirety), Matt will remain on board for the much-anticipated 50th anniversary Doctor Who special airing November 23 as well as the annual Christmas special, but those will be the last two episodes.
