Amber Portwood has recently begun serving her five-year prison sentence at the Rockville Correctional Facility in Indiana. She had shockingly requested the sentence after opting out of her drug treatment program. Amber was required to complete the program as a result of a previous arrest.
During the time she was on her program, Amber missed a court ordered drug appointment. Later, she claimed that the doctors who performed her gall bladder surgery had put her on bed rest but the doctors denied it. Although the judge had been firm in wanting her probation terms met, he let it slide.
The Teen Mom‘s decision to fore go treatment and head to prison left fans wondering what she was thinking. How could anyone in their right mind want to go to jail? As it turns out, Amber is already regretting her drastic decision.
Amber’s brother, Shawn Portwood, recently told Reality Weekly, “She threw in the towel. She did it on purpose because she wanted to give up.” Shawn also says that she didn’t think the decision through before committing to it and assumed that going to prison would be similar to county jail.
Another source told OK! Magazine, “She knows she’s a target for the other inmates and she really is scared for her life. She’s been having panic attacks and is convinced she’s going to die before she gets out.”
Fortunately for Amber, she will likely be released on parole after just two-and-a-half years. She will also have the opportunity to cut another 30 days off of her sentence if she completes the on-site drug rehabilitation program. Though this is sure to be an intense experience for Amber, it may be what she needs to finally kick her drug habit and focus on being a good mommy to her 3-year-old daugher, Leah.
