America Ferrera pushes for Ugly Betty reboot during cast reunion

The cast of Ugly Betty reunited over the weekend at the ATX Television Festival and lead actress America Ferrera pitched a show reboot in the process!

The show that ran for only four seasons on ABC had a devoted fan base, as was evident in a massive cast regathering in Austin to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of its premiere. America Ferrera, Michael Urie, Tony Plana, Eric Mabius, Ana Ortiz, Vanessa Williams, Mark Indelicato, Rebecca Romijn, Ashley Jensen, Judith Light and showrunner Silvio Horta all were in attendance.

Ferrera told the audience that, “It was like losing a family. There’s always a little piece of me…that still doesn’t want to let this go.”

America then joked, “Hulu’s going to pick us up for a two-hour special… That’s not true, but if you tweet it…Everybody here take out your phone. Hashtag: Betty Reboot. We need a hashtag and tweet it out and then we’re going to get Hulu to buy a two-hour special.”

Horta actually backed Ferrera’s idea. “Here’s the only thing I know for sure… If we were to do something, it would be a dream, but everybody on this stage would have to be involved. And Becki Newton,” he said.

Some of the actors then took to Twitter to share the hashtag as suggested. What started off as a kinda, sorta joke might actually end up in a new Ugly Betty movie. How quirky and fashionable – just like our girl Betty Suarez.
